How to Work in Prediction Markets

Gibraltar became the first country in the world with a dedicated rulebook for prediction markets on 13 July 2026, and the operators setting up here have to build real local teams. That makes this one of the few genuinely new career areas on the Rock. This guide covers the jobs and how to get into them. It does not cover trading or betting, which is a different thing entirely.

You do not need to be a trader

The most common assumption is that prediction markets are only for quants and traders. In reality, an operator is a regulated technology business, and most of its people are not traders at all. They keep the platform running, keep it compliant, and look after customers. If you have worked in iGaming, financial services or tech in Gibraltar, a lot of your experience already fits.

The roles operators hire for

  • Compliance and anti-money-laundering. The hot area. Regulated operators need compliance officers, AML analysts and a Money Laundering Reporting Officer, who has to be approved under the Gambling Act 2025.
  • Software and blockchain engineering. These platforms are built and run by developers, and several use blockchain technology.
  • Trading and platform operations. The people who keep markets running day to day.
  • Risk and pricing. Quantitative roles for those who want them.
  • Customer support and marketing. Common entry points that do not need a technical background.

Why the jobs are local

To hold a Gibraltar licence, an operator has to have genuine substance here. That means real people running the platform, handling compliance and supporting customers, based in Gibraltar rather than a registered address. It is the reason a new licence turns into local hiring, and it is why this sector is worth watching just as the older online gaming industry is under pressure from a rise in UK tax.

How to get a foot in

  • Register your CV so you are in the pool operators look at as they staff up. You can do that here.
  • Watch the licensed operators. See who is on the register and what they do on our prediction market jobs page.
  • Sort out the practical side of working in Gibraltar. Whether you need a permit depends on your nationality, so read the work in Gibraltar guide.
  • Know what you would take home. Gibraltar's tax is low and capped, and you can check it on the salary calculator.

What it pays

Prediction-market operators in Gibraltar do not publish their own salary bands yet, so we do not invent them. As a guide, roles look broadly comparable to Gibraltar's existing iGaming and fintech pay, which runs from around twenty thousand pounds for entry-level customer support up past a hundred thousand for senior and specialist roles. Treat that as a signpost, not a quote, and see the salary guide for detail.

Common questions

Do you need to be a trader to work in prediction markets?

No. Most roles at a prediction-market operator are in compliance, engineering, operations, customer support and marketing, not trading. This is a careers guide and does not cover how to trade.

What qualifications do you need?

It depends on the role. Compliance and anti-money-laundering roles value regulatory experience, engineering roles value software skills, and support and operations roles are often open to people with strong general skills. Regulated functions like a Money Laundering Reporting Officer need approval under Gibraltar's Gambling Act 2025.

Can I move into prediction markets from iGaming or finance?

Yes. A lot of the skills carry straight over, especially in compliance, operations, engineering and support. Gibraltar's existing iGaming and financial-services workforce is a natural fit as operators build local teams.

Do I have to live in Gibraltar to work in the sector?

Not necessarily. Many people who work in Gibraltar live across the border in Spain as frontier workers. Your situation depends on your nationality and circumstances, so check our work-in-Gibraltar guide and confirm with the relevant authority.
